FOR SAFEKEEPING

A photo book project

"When I first started out this project, I originally wanted to just capture the everyday things that I come across. Eventually, I decided to embark on this three-part project, documenting the changes from the Nation’s 50th year of independence onwards - very much like a visual diary. This project would be about capturing moments of people whom we may not see daily and to safekeep the memories of what I saw into this book. I intend to document the current state of living in our society, showing how far we have come, and track its progress in the following years to come.

In truth, I fear for the things that make us uniquely Singaporeans, disappearing during my lifetime and I also fear that current trends in society amongst the young, may corrode the true meaning of life. While I understand that some changes, for the betterment of society, may result in cultural loss, I hope that we can embrace and treasure what we have left before it is too late when it is gone.

I convey my thoughts about this through my images, hoping to evoke thoughts in you."
